the race is on

gotta love flickr - people have started posting old family photos, sets of amateur images from the 1950's appear on a regular basis now... great stuff if you're a 50's fan like myself.
the b/w image is from a collection on flickr of photos from the mid-50s to the 70s, great stuff and all taken by one man.
i was on a forum i recently joined and we were talking about "whirly birds" - hadn't heard about this TV show in years, seeing the characters now, i realised i dress like they do these days, with the work shirt and the redcap style jacket... i even have a pair of avaitors somewhere in the pile of sunglasses(getting dusty - we need some sun soon), i used to worship this tv-show in the day...

but, on a funny note today - a little bit of synchronicity never goes amiss.
i was heading to kings heath to buy some converse from the top banana vintage shop(he had exactly the dark maroon colour and size wanted, as well as a cup of coffee on a cold day!), and i spotted a character from my distant past... my old college housemate, walking morosely in green wellingtons with his other half, coming out of the park having walked some skinny looking dogs.
there's a moral in there somewhere, it just made me smile that i had come this way to look for a particular type of footwear only to see a vision from the past in some sort of tenure, trudging around in plastic boots.
oh well...
the images here all tie-in for me though: one is an actual 50's photo, one is a contrived(ie - professionally shot portrait) image and of course, the final one is a recent one(taken from tehmyspace) of a fellow 1950's fan, like meeself...
so there.

I hope while in the Top Banana neighbourhood you popped in a couple of doors down to Polar Bear.
I'm not sure how much 50s vinyl Steve has in stock but it should be worth a look - or at least an encouraging inquiry... Thanks for the name check in your links - much appreciated.
